Proceedings of the first session of the Syrian Forum for National Dialogue Towards a Free, Pluralistic, Democratic Syria<\/p>\n

The session was titled \u201cCrises of the Central Totalitarian System in Syria and the Issues They Resulted in.\u201d It was moderated by Mr. Kurdyar Dari\u2019i, and two lectures were given during it by Mr. Hassan Younan and Ms. Siham Daoud.<\/p>\n
\n
Mr. Hassan Younan discussed the crises of the totalitarian regime, starting from the construction of the nation-state in Syria (the Sykes-Picot Agreement) until the Baathist regime seized power, and the causes of the political, economic and social crises.<\/p>\n
\n
As for Mrs. Siham Daoud, she addressed this topic from the time the Baathist regime seized power until its fall. She also spoke about the status of women under the Baathist regime and women\u2019s mental resistance to the Baathist regime.<\/p>\n
\n
Then the floor was opened to the participants for interventions and discussion on the session\u2019s theme, where they enriched the session with their suggestions and observations. All interventions focused on key points to work on, including:<\/p>\n

Forming a democratic front.<\/p>\n
\n
The necessity for Syria to be a decentralized, secular, democratic state.<\/p>\n
\n
Forming a committee to implement the outcomes of the forum and many other proposals made by the participants in the Syrian Forum for National Dialogue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
